This document details an initiative focused on managing contaminated land in Serbia through improved planning and the reduction of environmental pressures. The project, conducted from 2015 to 2021, involved collaboration between national environmental authorities, international partners, and academic institutions. Its primary scope included capacity building for site investigation, the sampling and analysis of pollutants at thirty-two locations, and the integration of a contaminated sites database into the national information system. Methods applied included field assessments, the implementation of a preliminary risk assessment model for human health, and the establishment of regulatory reporting forms. Findings highlight the distribution of pollution across various industrial sectors, identifying specific sites that require urgent remediation, recultivation, and long-term monitoring.
