dc.descriptionThis report presents an assessment of mercury content in coal used by power plants and the resulting emissions from the sector in India, based on data collection, laboratory analysis, and field measurements. It compiles information on coal characteristics, consumption patterns, and power generation infrastructure, and analyses samples from multiple coalfields and washeries to determine chemical composition and mercury levels. The study measures mercury emissions in selected plants, evaluates emission factors, and develops an emissions inventory using established methodologies. Findings indicate variability in mercury content, significant retention in fly ash, and estimated emissions influenced by coal properties and control technologies, with projections based on future coal use scenarios.en
