Abstract

This document presents the key outcomes of the Twelfth Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa, held in Abidjan in 2024, as input to the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment. It underscores the escalating impacts of climate change on African economies, the urgent need for increased adaptation financing, and the failure of developed countries to deliver predictable climate funds. The text calls on African states to adopt robust national adaptation plans by 2025, prioritize grant-based finance, and push for reforms to the global financial system. It emphasizes scaling up investments in adaptation, technology transfer, early warning systems, and climate information services, alongside leveraging tools such as carbon markets, green bonds, and regional trade mechanisms.
