The State of Biodiversity in the Caribbean Community:A Review of Progress Towards the Aichi Biodiversity Targets

This report presents an assessment of the status of biodiversity in the Caribbean Community and reviews progress towards internationally agreed biodiversity targets. It examines the role of ecosystems in supporting livelihoods, economic sectors and human well-being while documenting pressures such as habitat loss, pollution, invasive species and climate variability affecting the region. Drawing on national reports, environmental statistics and regional initiatives, the document evaluates actions taken by member countries to integrate biodiversity considerations into policies, planning processes and development strategies. The assessment identifies advances in awareness, data collection, monitoring programmes and protected area management, while also highlighting persistent challenges, including limited financial and technical capacity, insufficient data availability and the need for stronger cooperation to improve biodiversity conservation and sustainable management across the region.
