Abstract

This document describes the Regional Strategy and Action Plan for the Valuation, Protection and/or Restoration of Key Marine Habitats in the Wider Caribbean 2021–2030, developed to address the deterioration of coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass beds across the wider Caribbean. It outlines a strategic framework that provides direction, practical solutions, and specific actions to support the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of marine and coastal habitats. The document highlights the economic and social importance of these ecosystems for more than 134 million people and notes their contribution to sectors including shipping, tourism, fishing, aquaculture, oil and gas, desalination, and coastal protection. It also explains the role of civil society organisations in raising awareness, engaging stakeholders, mobilising resources, and participating in collaborative implementation.
