Sustainable Consumption and Production Action Plan for the Industrial Sector in Lebanon 2015: SCP National Action Plan - SwitchMed Programme

The SCP approach holds ‘life cycle thinking’ at its core. It involves considering and understanding the environmental and social impacts that a product, service or solution causes at each stage of its lifecycle, from the extraction of raw materials, to their processing, design and production/manufacture, through to distribution, use/re-use or delivery to end-of-life disposal. Lebanon has chosen this approach for the development of its first SCP Action Plan for the Industrial Sector for the following main reasons which are further detailed in the following sections: (i) An on-going momentum for mainstreaming SCP in the national planning process in Lebanon is in place and will allow Lebanon to adopt a comprehensive and inclusive approach for SCP across all sectors; (ii) An on-going momentum for the development of the industrial sector in line with sustainable development and SCP approaches and in light of the socio-economic potential which this sector represents at the national level. (iii) Other national specificities including synergies with on-going related initiatives such as the SWITCH-Med/MEDTEST II project and the importance of focusing the SCP Action Plan on the industrial activities in the Litani Basin and Qaraoun Lake as a national priority for the management of water resources in Lebanon.
