dc.descriptionThis document presents a gender mainstreaming strategy and action plan for the Global Environment Facility project on the disposal of polychlorinated biphenyl oils contained in transformers and capacitors in Southern Africa. The project aims to reduce environmental and human health risks from polychlorinated biphenyl releases across 12 countries: Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The report examines gender dimensions of exposure to persistent organic pollutants, reviews relevant evidence and policy frameworks, and draws on a literature review, stakeholder feedback, a knowledge, attitudes and practices survey, and a training workshop. It outlines implementation, monitoring and risk management measures to enable women and other identified population groups to benefit equally from project interventions.en
