dc.descriptionTourism is primarily associated with the cultural and archaeological richness of the country and to a lesser extent with its coastal areas (the Pacific in particular). At present, tourism is the number two foreign exchange earner of the country. During 1987-1991 alone, tourism earnings reached 774.7 million dollars (INGUAT, 1992). For this reason, the stimulation and diversification of tourism is an important part of the socio-economic policies defined by the Government of the Republic of Guatemala for the 1991-1996 period.en
