dc.descriptionThis presentation outlines a specialised industrial process for the stabilisation of metallic mercury into mercury sulphide. Designed for the treatment of mercury containing waste from sources such as battery recycling, the chlorine alkali industry, and non-ferrous mining, the method employs a vacuum mixer to facilitate a complete reaction between mercury and sulphur. This transformation produces a stable, non-toxic red crystalline compound that mirrors the natural mineral cinnabar. The generated mercury sulphide demonstrates low leaching behaviour, falling well beneath the limit established for inert landfill disposal, while ensuring the final product remains free of mercury emissions. The technology has received approval from competent authorities and represents a large-scale solution for the secure management and permanent retirement of mercury.
