It draws attention to Guinea’s reliance on biomass—with firewood and charcoal accounting for a large share of household energy use—and highlights a significant hydropower potential estimated at 26,000 GWh/year, much of which remains untapped. In 2015, the country’s electricity generation was primarily from hydro (55.9%) and fossil fuels (43.1%), while modern renewables like solar played only a minimal role. The report notes that electrification remains low, with just 26.2% of the population having access to electricity, and stark disparities between urban (74.2%) and rural (2.9%) access levels. Institutional and regulatory frameworks, such as the Ministry of Energy and Hydraulics and the national electrification policy, are outlined alongside Guinea’s energy targets and commitments under the Paris Agreement, illustrating both current realities and future priorities.en
