Multi-country meeting on Enhancing Monitoring of Trade and Elimination of Mercury Skin Lightening Products - Workshop Presentations Day 1
Abstract
The GEF-funded, UNEP-led project “Eliminating Mercury Skin Lightening Products” being implemented aims to address the serious health and environmental risks posed by mercury-added skin lightening products. A regional workshop was held on 5–6 June 2025 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, as a multi-country meeting to share lessons from the project’s implementation, particularly in Sri Lanka, and to raise regional awareness. Representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam joined discussions on phasing out mercury-containing SLPs and explored the potential for a larger regional or global initiative.
