dc.descriptionMercury thermometer and manometer are widely used in China and exported to many countries and regions in the world due to their accuracy, inexpensiveness, and simplicity and convenience in use. At present, the annual output of mercury thermometer and sphygmomanometer is over 100 million and 3 million respectively in China. To facilitate the transition towards mercury free thermometer and sphygmomanometer and the reduction of mercury use and emission, a study project on the social and economic impact of the transition towards mercury free products was funded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), aiming at understanding the progress of research and development of mercury free products and the social-economic costs of transition, analyzing the social and economic impact of mercury free transition
