In June 2012, Heads of State and Government met in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, which saw full participation from civil society. This conference allowed world leaders to renew their commitment to sustainable development and to accelerate the shift toward sustainable consumption and production patterns through the adoption of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP). This meeting is known as Rio+20 and has become a key milestone in the global sustainable development agenda.en
