Adaptation Gap Report 2022 - Key Messages

This document finds that climate risks are rising as global warming accelerates and that both strong mitigation and adaptation are essential for protecting vulnerable countries and communities. It reports that more than eight in ten countries now have at least one national adaptation planning instrument, and that these plans are improving in quality and inclusiveness. However, finance to turn plans into action is not keeping pace: international adaptation flows to developing countries remain five to ten times below estimated needs, with the gap widening. Implementation of adaptation measures is growing but still lags behind escalating impacts. The text emphasizes integrating adaptation and mitigation from the outset of planning, finance, and delivery to enhance co-benefits, and concludes that stronger political will is required to scale investments and outcomes.
