NO This document examines how a transition to a green economy could support sustainable development and poverty eradication in Africa within the Rio+20 preparatory context. It defines a green economy in terms of improved well-being and equity alongside reduced environmental risks, then situates the discussion in Africa’s heavy dependence on natural capital amid persistent poverty, unemployment, and intensifying climate and resource pressures. The report outlines contributions to inclusive growth, employment, food security, and reduced vulnerability, and proposes pathways that build on natural capital, pursue cleaner and more resource-efficient industrial growth, and establish enabling policies and institutions.
