Compiled by local environmental experts and coordinated by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), the report quantifies annual mercury emissions from eight major anthropogenic categories—including energy production (coal, oil, natural gas, geothermal), primary metal production (gold, silver, copper, lead), cement and lime manufacturing, chlor-alkali processing, and the use of mercury in consumer products, laboratory equipment, and other intentional uses. Emissions estimates are based on national production statistics, activity data, and UNEP default emission factors, often using maximum values due to data limitations. Mapped facility locations and emission estimates help identify potential exposure risks and infrastructure gaps. The assessment uses 2006 data and is presented as a 2008 draft report intended to guide national policy development.
