NO Mercury is a highly toxic metal. Being an element, mercury cannot be broken down or degraded into harmless substances. Mercury may change between different states and species in its cycle. Once mercury has been released from its sources, it can be highly mobile, cycling between the earth’s surface and the atmosphere. Due to its high toxicity, mercury has been a concern for the international community for several years.
