NO The Global Status Report for Buildings and Construction 2024-2025, titled "Not just another brick in the wall," is published by the UN Environment Programme and the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC). This report provides a comprehensive overview of the global buildings and construction sector, drawing on the latest data to assess progress and challenges since the Paris Agreement in 2015. Buildings currently account for 32% of global energy use and contribute 34% of global CO2 emissions, with materials like cement and steel responsible for 18% of these emissions. Despite some policy successes, progress remains insufficient to meet Paris targets: energy intensity in the sector has only declined by 9.5% (short of the 18.2% goal), and CO2 emissions from building operations have risen by 5.4% instead of falling. The report highlights the urgent need to accelerate energy efficiency, expand renewable energy adoption, strengthen building codes, and increase investment to close the emissions gap and achieve climate goals.
