In the West Asia region, a number of countries have grappled with disasters and conflicts in recent years, elevating the management of waste, especially debris, stemming from these crises to a top priority. This training manual was designed to assist countries in developing and implementing waste management contingency plans with feasible solutions that can be put into practice prior to emergencies. First it introduces the different types of disasters and the waste streams associated with disasters and conflicts, it then delves into planning for disaster and conflict waste management, covering preparatory processes and the key elements of a Disaster Waste Management Plan and finally provides guidance on responding to major explosions, major displacements, and major oil spills.
