The cleaner production approach is known to dramatically reduce resource consumption while at the same time increase process efficiency. Improved efficiency also has positive financial implications as it means less money wasted on valuable resources released to the environment. These simple and seemingly obvious facts raise the key question of why this is not occurring automatically in the industry without the stimulus of outside intervention.
