NO This presentation reviews fossil fuel subsidies in Latin America and the Caribbean within the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. It outlines climate and energy-use context, including the share of emissions from energy use, sectoral energy consumption patterns, and growth in vehicle numbers. It links fossil fuel consumption to adverse health and welfare effects and contrasts low tax revenue with limited inequality reduction. Household-consumption results show that subsidies disproportionately benefit higher-income households. The slides present estimates of fossil fuel consumption subsidies, including 2020 levels and trends from 2010 to 2020, and describe them as expensive and as delaying renewable adoption. Concluding remarks call for reform, reevaluation of schemes, and measurement of subsidy magnitude and destination to assess efficiency.
