NO Environmental defenders were successful in stopping environmentally destructive and socially conflictive projects in 11% if the cases.This success rate was found to increase up to 27% through a combination of particular strategies such as preventive mobilization, protest diversification, and litigation. The success of environmental defenders, has invited increasing political repression, including high rates of criminalization (20% of cases), physical violence (18%), and assassinations (13%).
