It is a clear, colourless liquid that is volatile (vapour pressure of 3.82 kPa), flammable, and explosive in air. The technical product may contain small amounts of benzene. Toluene will not react with dilute acids or bases and is not corrosive. In the atmosphere, it reacts rapidly with hydroxyl radicals to form a variety of oxidation products.
