NO African economies remain insufficiently diversified. The largest percentage of the continent’s gross domestic product (GDP)is derived from natural resources sectors, for example, tourism, agriculture, mining, forestry and fishing. Environmental degradationis threatening the resource basis of these productive sectors, due to their inefficient practices and resource dilapidation. It is thereforecrucial to enhance the efficiency of resources and conserve these sectors’ biodiversity to ensure that they are sustainable and benefitexisting businesses, as well as future generations.
