By addressing significant risks like deforestation and extreme weather, the programme aims to ensure the long-term financial and operational sustainability of the national system of protected areas. The scope includes nine critical landscapes covering over thirty per cent of the country, utilising a financial model that combines international cooperation, private sector resources, and increased government commitments to close funding gaps. Key objectives involve expanding protected areas, improving management effectiveness, and implementing sustainable land-use planning. Ultimately, this approach seeks to secure vital ecosystem services, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable populations against climate threats.
