The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is developing the REDD+ mechanism to provide financial incentives to reduce such emissions. REDD+ includes Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (initially referred to as REDD) as well as: i) conservation of indigenous forests; ii) sustainable management of forests; and iii) the enhancement of forest carbon stocks.
