It frames Amazonia’s global ecological significance while describing contemporary socioeconomic change, including rapid urbanisation, expanding monoculture and livestock production, and large transport and energy infrastructures. The assessment links these pressures to major impacts such as extensive deforestation, habitat loss and biodiversity decline, water-quality degradation from multiple anthropogenic sources, and rising social conflict and health vulnerabilities.
