Leveraging updated building footprints from May 2023 and above-surface height modeling, debris was estimated at one tonne per built square meter and spatially visualized using a 250m H3 hexagonal grid. As of 6 September 2024, approximately 47.4 million tonnes of debris had been produced—a 107% increase since January 2024—with the highest quantities recorded in Gaza Governorate. In total, 163,778 structures were damaged: 32% destroyed, 11% severely damaged, 34% moderately damaged, and 23% possibly damaged. The debris now exceeds by sixteenfold the total generated by all previous conflicts in Gaza since 2008. DS UN Environment Document Repository RD Sep 20, 2026
