NO This document provides a summary of current global efforts to track, report and reduce man-made methane emissions. It emphasises the urgent need for stakeholders to move from pledges to implementation in order to slow global warming and meet international climate goals. It highlights the progress of initiatives such as UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO), including advances in satellite monitoring, AI-powered data analysis and the fully operational Methane Alert and Response System (MARS). The report notes the significant involvement of countries and major oil and gas companies, the transition to high-quality, measurement-based reporting through OGMP 2.0 and extensive capacity-building efforts. It also emphasises the persistent gap between data availability and action, with only a small percentage of alerts receiving substantive responses.
