It draws attention to Guinea’s reliance on biomass—with firewood and charcoal accounting for a large share of household energy use—and highlights a significant hydropower potential estimated at 26,000 GWh/year, much of which remains untapped. In 2015, the country’s electricity generation was primarily from hydro (55.9%) and fossil fuels (43.1%), while modern renewables like solar played only a minimal role. The report notes that electrification remains low, with just 26.2% of the population having access to electricity, and stark disparities between urban (74.2%) and rural (2.9%) access levels.
