NO This workshop report documents the Arendal II meeting held in May 1995 to advance cooperation between the United Nations Environment Programme and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research on the use of geographical information systems in agricultural research. It outlines the project background, objectives and structure, and reviews existing capacities across twelve research centres and the Global Resource Information Database network. The report summarises expert presentations on cartographic, climate, soils, population, land use, crop distribution and biodiversity datasets, and identifies priorities for data access and compilation. It also examines telecommunications developments, capacity building requirements and integration of spatial data with models, concluding with recommendations on dataset production, institutional development and networking to guide project planning and implementation.
