RT Report T1 From Pollution to Solution: A Global Assessment of Marine Litter and Plastic Pollution - Synthesis T2 De la pollution à la solution: Une évaluation mondiale des déchets marins et de la pollution plastique - Synthèse T2 Проблема загрязнения и ее решение: Глобальная оценка загрязнения морской среды мусором и пластмассами - Сводный доклад T2 从污染到解决: 全球海洋垃圾和塑料污染评估 - 综述 A1 United Nations Environment Programme, K1 marine pollution K1 plastic waste K1 marine environment K1 greenhouse gas K1 recycling K1 citizen science K1 environmental aspect K1 environmental monitoring K1 chemical SN 978-92-807-3881-0 YR 2021 FD 2021 LK https://wedocs.unep.org/handle/20.500.11822/36965 UL https://wedocs.unep.org/handle/20.500.11822/36965 NO Key Findings: 1. Marine litter, including plastics and microplastics, has grown drastically and is projected to more than double by 2030. 2. Marine litter and plastics are a grave threat to all marine life and are influencing the climate. 3. Human health and well-being arealso at risk. 4. The hidden costs of plastics for the global economy. 5. Marine litter and plastics are threat multipliers. 6. Half of marine litter and plastics comes from uncontrolled waste streams on land. 7. Movement and accumulation of litter and plastics occurs over decades. 8. Advances in technologies and growing citizen science activities are improving detection, but consistency of measurements remains a challenge. 9. Plastic recycling rates are less than 10 per cent and plastics-related greenhouse gas emissions are significant, but solutions are emerging. 10.Progress is being made at all levels, with a potential global instrument in sight.
