Compiled by the World Conservation Monitoring Centre under the Joint Nature Conservation Committee, the document reflects updates from the 9th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CITES, effective from 16 February 1995. Its primary purpose is to present a taxonomic list of fish and invertebrates included in Appendices I, II and III of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), alongside their conservation status as recorded in the 1994 IUCN Red List of Threatened Animals. Since only a limited number of invertebrates and a small proportion of fish species have undergone formal conservation assessment, the Red List represents only a fraction of potentially threatened taxa. By consolidating this information with scientific names, synonyms, common names, geographical distributions, and status classifications, the publication supports international biodiversity governance, helping authorities and researchers monitor and regulate the trade of vulnerable aquatic species.
