Transboundary Aquifers and Groundwater Systems of Small Island Developing States: Status and Trends - Summary for Policy Makers

Abstract

The Groundwater Component of the Transboundary Waters Assessment Programme addresses transboundary aquifers and groundwater systems in Small Island Developing States. It was implemented by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization International Hydrological Programme and provides the first structured baseline assessment of 199 transboundary aquifers and 42 groundwater systems in Small Island Developing States. The assessment establishes a basis for periodic assessments and for developing scenarios of possible future changes in the status of these groundwater systems.
