Abidjan Convention Treaty

Abidjan Convention establishes a regional framework for protecting the marine environment, coastal zones, and related inland waters of the West and Central African Region. It defines obligations for contracting parties to prevent, reduce, and control marine pollution from various sources, including ships, land-based activities, dumping, and atmospheric pollution. The document sets provisions for environmental impact assessment, scientific cooperation, emergency response, institutional arrangements, reporting, compliance, and dispute settlement. It designates the United Nations Environment Programme as the secretariat responsible for supporting implementation and coordination of the Convention.
