A Case Study on Climate Change Mitigation Options for Afghanistan

This document presents a case study of climate change mitigation options for Afghanistan, using 2015 as the base year and applying 2006 IPCC Guidelines and software to estimate emissions and identify key categories such as transport, household and commercial energy use, manufacturing and construction, and energy industries. It constructs a business-as-usual baseline for 2015–2035 using sector assumptions, bottom-up scenario building, and a supporting spreadsheet, while noting data gaps and uncertainty in activity data. Mitigation actions are formulated from adopted NAMA and NDC-related priorities, with MRV needs specified. Reported results indicate approximately 17.4% emissions reduction in 2035 relative to the study’s baseline.
