COBSEA Ghost Gear Toolbox

This toolbox provides practical guidance and curated resources to support environmentally sound and inclusive prevention, mitigation, recovery, and management of ghost gear across the East Asian Seas region. It explains the nature of abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear and organises available guidance, case studies, videos, reports, and infographics into four thematic sections covering prevention, damage minimisation, recovery and reporting, and cross-cutting guidance. The toolbox compiles existing resources developed by partner organisations, highlights good practices for replication, and identifies measures such as gear marking, end-of-life gear management, reporting systems, recovery techniques, and education initiatives. It also states that additional tools, case studies, and resources will be incorporated over time through the regional knowledge platform.
