Louder Lessons in Technology Transfer: Lessons Learned and Case Studies

This document presents findings from a technology transfer workshop held in Bangkok in March 1999, organized by United Nations agencies to examine experiences from Asian-Pacific developing countries that had successfully completed conversions from ozone-depleting substances to alternative technologies under the Montreal Protocol's Multilateral Fund. The workshop brought together government representatives, industry participants, and implementing agencies to identify lessons learned and barriers faced during technology transfer projects. Through analysis of six private sector case studies and four case studies from international development organizations, the document distills ten core lessons addressing collaboration, planning, market dynamics, training, and policy considerations. The findings are intended to inform future environmental technology transfers, particularly regarding the relationship between ozone layer protection and climate change protocols.
