Abstract
This presentation outlines monitoring activities under the Global Monitoring Plan of the Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants, focusing on cooperation arrangements, capacity building, and identified challenges. It describes established partnerships with global, regional, and national programmes, including 255 air monitoring sites across ten networks, and highlights gaps in data reporting and geographical coverage. The document summarises consultation outcomes supporting continued air monitoring, a global human milk survey, and water sampling for specific substances, alongside long-term strategies for effectiveness evaluation. It details training, standard operating procedures, inter-laboratory assessments, and participation across multiple countries, while noting limited development of national monitoring programmes and the role of monitoring data in policy development, risk assessment, and evaluation activities.
