Interim Assessment of Revised National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans

This report provides a preliminary assessment of revised national biodiversity strategies and action plans prepared after 2010 to examine how countries have aligned national biodiversity planning with the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011–2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. Based on a desk review of 25 submitted strategies, it examines preparation processes, legal preparedness, integration of the strategic plan and targets, monitoring indicators, and approaches to resource mobilisation. The assessment identifies common patterns, highlights examples of national practice, and notes limitations arising from the small number of strategies reviewed. It also presents general recommendations to strengthen ongoing revision processes through improved stakeholder participation, legal frameworks, monitoring arrangements, political ownership, financing strategies, and implementation planning.
